The NFL playoff schedule for 2024 is shown here.
The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers faced off in the Super Bowl four years ago. We will now be seeing a rematch.
After mounting an incredible comeback against the Lions on Sunday, the 49ers punched their ticket to Las Vegas. The 49ers were down the Lions 24-7 at the half, but they overcame them 27-7 in the second half to win 34-31. For the first time in their franchise’s existence, the Lions were trying to make it to the Super Bowl.
With the win, the 49ers will play in the Super Bowl for the seventh time overall and for the third time in 11 years. In 2019, San Francisco made its most recent trip to the big game, which resulted in a 31-20 loss in Super Bowl LIV against the Chiefs.
The Chiefs, on the other hand, won 17-10 over the Baltimore Ravens on the road to progress to the NFL’s championship game.
Now, Kansas City has the opportunity to become the first NFL team to win the title twice since the Patriots did so in 2003–04. The Chiefs will also be playing in the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five years, a feat shared by only two other teams in NFL history (1990–93 Bills, 2014–18 Patriots).
Let’s examine the complete 2024 NFL playoff schedule, complete with all of the outcomes, in light of that.
Super Wild Card Weekend
Saturday, Jan. 13
- (4) Texans 45-14 over (5) Browns. This entire thing was a beatdown. C.J. Stroud threw for 274 yards and tied the rookie record for touchdown passes in a playoff game with three, and the Browns defence had no answers for him. In the second half, the Texans defence sealed the victory with two pick-sixes on Joe Flacco, which was another huge play.
- (3) Chiefs 26-7 over (6) Dolphins. This was the fourth-coldest NFL game ever, with a kickoff temperature of minus-4, and Miami was no match for the bitter cold. The Dolphins offence was never able to get going, but the Chiefs offence amassed over 400 yards despite the cold.
Sunday, Jan. 14
- (7) Packers 48-32 over (2) Cowboys. The Packers travelled into Dallas and gave the Cowboys a crushing defeat in the biggest upset of the wild-card round. With a passer rating of 157.2 at the end of the game, Jordan Love is tied for the fourth-highest in NFL postseason history. The Packers put on a strong performance, leading 48–16 before the Cowboys managed two touchdowns in garbage time.
- (3) Lions 24-23 over (6) Rams. In a close game, the Lions won their first postseason victory in thirty-two years. The Rams drove into Detroit’s territory, but the Lions defence couldn’t come up with a stop in the closing minutes to seal the victory.
Monday, Jan. 15
(2) Bills 31-17 over (7) Steelers. The Bills offence was too strong to be stopped by even a single day off. Josh Allen not only had his longest run of the season—a 52-yard gain—but he also completed three touchdown passes with the ball. In the victory, Allen gained 277 yards (203 passing, 74 running).
(4) Buccaneers 32-9 over (5) Eagles. During the last few weeks of the regular season, the Eagles completely broke down, and they were unable to halt the bleeding in the postseason. In Tampa Bay’s victory, Baker Mayfield threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns, mauling the Philadelphia defence.
Divisional Round
Saturday, Jan. 20
- (1) Ravens 34-10 over (4) Texans. The game was close at the half, but the Ravens outscored Houston 24-0 in the second half to take a commanding lead. The Ravens ran for 229 yards, and the Texans had absolutely no answer for them. With 100 rushing yards and four touchdowns in all (two passing, two rushing), Lamar Jackson was the highlight of the event.
- (1) 49ers 24-21 over (7) Packers. For the first three quarters of the game, the Packers appeared to be in control of the outcome, but in the fourth, they completely lost it. In the last quarter, they had three drives that resulted in a three-and-out, a field goal that was missed, and an interception. To prevent the upset, the 49ers outscored the Packers 10-0 in the last quarter.
Sunday, Jan. 21
- (3) Lions 31-23 over (4) Buccaneers. Jahmyr Gibbs ignited things in the second half, putting up 89 of his 114 yards in the latter two quarters, after the Lions offence had gotten off to a poor start. For the Lions, Jared Goff also delivered a huge performance, passing for 287 yards and two touchdowns.
- (3) Chiefs 27-24 over (2) Bills. Patrick Mahomes participated in a road playoff game for the first time in his career, but he didn’t appear to mind. Travis Kelce scored both of the Chiefs quarterback’s 215 yards and two touchdowns through passing. The Kansas City offence only punted once during the whole game, which presented challenges for the Bills defence.
Championship Sunday
Sunday, Jan. 28
AFC Championship, 3 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)
(3) Chiefs 17-10 over (1) Ravens.
Bet on Patrick Mahomes never loses. Thanks to stellar performances from Mahomes (241 passing yards and a touchdown) and Travis Kelce (11 catches for 115 yards and a touchdown), the underdog Chiefs were able to pull off the upset. Even better, the Chiefs defence limited the Ravens to only three points in the game’s last three quarters. The game-winning interception in the end zone and a fumble recovery were among the three enormous turnovers that the defence forced.
NFC Championship, 6:30 p.m. ET (Fox)
- (1) 49ers 34-31 over (3) Lions. Dan Campbell, the head coach of the Lions, has been combative throughout the season, and it eventually caught up with him. In this game, the Lions failed two fourth down attempts, both of which occurred in circumstances where Detroit could have attempted a field goal try. The 49ers outscored the Lions 27-7 in the second half, and that’s when the defence collapsed even more. With 318 yards and a touchdown, San Francisco’s Brock Purdy had a fantastic night.
